“You are not really dying, are you? (du stirbst nicht wirklich, oder?; You are not…are you? – Verstärkung der Frage, Nachdruck)” asked Amanda (fragte Amanda).
“I have the doctor’s permission to live till Tuesday (ich habe die Erlaubnis des Arztes bis Dienstag zu leben; permission [pə‘mɪʃ(ə)n]),” said Laura (sagte Laura).
“But to–day is Saturday; this is serious! (aber heute ist Samstag; das ist ernst; serious [‚sɪərɪəs])” gasped Amanda (keuchte Amanda; gasp [gɑ:sp]).
“I don’t know about it being serious (ich weiß nicht, ob es ernst ist; serious [‚sɪərɪəs]); it is certainly Saturday (es ist sicherlich Samstag; certainly [‚sɜ:t(ə)nlɪ] — allerdings, natürlich, sicherlich; certain — bestimmt, gewiss, sicher),” said Laura.
“Death is always serious (Tod ist immer ernst; death [deθ]),” said Amanda.
“You are not really dying, are you?” asked Amanda.
“I have the doctor’s permission to live till Tuesday,” said Laura.
“But to–day is Saturday; this is serious!” gasped Amanda.
“I don’t know about it being serious; it is certainly Saturday,” said Laura.
“Death is always serious,” said Amanda.
